The secret to a successful cleaning operation is simply to be organized, have the right tools at your disposal and get into a positive frame of mind. Learn more about our tips and tricks to simplify, and maybe even enjoy, your household chores!
Plan before you attack!
To get your cleaning operation off on the right foot, you first need to make a list of priorities. What tasks need your immediate attention? Kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, living room... Common area with a lot of comings-and-goings might need a little more love.
Next, plan a schedule that involves the whole family. Assign specific tasks according to the age and abilities of each member of your brood. The youngest can easily dust off the living room shelves while the eldest can go to town on the tub with a trusty sponge.
But before getting into the swing of things, take some time to do something that often gets swept under the rug: declutter! There’s no need to spend hours sifting through your things, basic decluttering can be done in a few easy steps:
Recycle newspapers and give away old books and magazines to friends, family or neighbors looking for something new to read.
Bring all your expired medication to the pharmacy so that it can be disposed of safely. This will clear out your bathroom and make it a lot easier to clean.
Donate any clothes and accessories that no longer fit (and don’t forget to empty the toy bin!).
You’re now ready to get started! Don’t forget to put on some music to motivate the troops!
Make sure you have the right products
When it comes to housekeeping, having the tools of the trade is a no-brainer! Whether it’s to wash windows, scrub the microwave or clean the bathroom, make sure you have everything you need close at hand.
Last but not least, equip yourself with rubber gloves, mop, broom or vacuum, and bins to tidy up as you go. With the right equipment, your cleaning session will run like clockwork.

Opt for sustainable cleaning practices
All it takes is a few basic changes to adopt a more environmentally friendly cleaning routine. For example, open your windows more often or cultivate your love of potted green plants to help freshen and purify the air in the house.
Here are some other easy-to-do things to give your household cleaning routine a green thumbs up:
Reduce your use of disposable paper towels by choosing washable towels made from microfibres.
Reduce your water consumption by using a spray bottle filled with cleaning solution instead of the traditional bucket of water.
Forget the soap and wash the floor simply with water.
To clean and disinfect the microwave, heat a cup or more of water with a slice of lemon for a few seconds. Then use a towel to clean the interior. Clean with a scent of lemon!
Use an old toothbrush to scrub bathroom tiles or hard-to-reach places.
Practiced daily, these little gestures can make a world of difference! You’ll see, even cleaning can contribute to the well-being of the planet!
